What to Expect at Your First Visit

Trying a new dentist can feel like a big step, especially if it's been a while. Here's exactly what happens at your first visit, so there are no surprises. Just a calm, unhurried appointment and a clear plan.

Before you arrive

When you walk in

You'll be greeted by name. Because your paperwork is already done, check-in takes just a minute or two. Get comfortable. We'll offer a blanket, a neck pillow and headphones if you'd like them.

No clipboards, no rush. Just a warm welcome.

Getting to know you

Before anything else, we talk. What brings you in? Any concerns, pain or goals for your smile? Any past dental experiences that made you nervous? This conversation shapes everything that follows, and it's why we call it relationship dentistry.

Your exam, step by step

1. Digital X-raysLow-dose images that appear on screen in seconds, only if you need them.
2. Full examYour dentist checks each tooth, your gums, bite and jaw, plus an oral cancer screening.
3. Gum checkA gentle measurement of the space around each tooth to check your gum health.
4. CleaningIf your gums are healthy, most first visits include a professional cleaning and polish.

Throughout, you're in control. Raise your hand any time and we'll pause.

Seeing what we see

We show you your X-rays and photos on screen and explain what we find in plain language. You'll know what's healthy, what needs watching, and what, if anything, needs treatment.

Leaving with a plan

If you need treatment, you'll get a written plan that lists each step, why it matters, how urgent it is and what it costs after insurance. There's no pressure to decide on the spot. Take it home, ask questions, and choose what's right for you.

Nervous? You're not alone

Many of our patients felt the same way before their first visit. Tell us when you book, and we'll take extra time, explain each step before we do it and offer calming options. Whether it's been six months or six years, you'll only hear kindness here.
